My parents 49th anniversary BBQ dinner...

Well, it was a very late dinner, but we had it!!! We expected it to be a 6:30pm meal, but by the time everyone got here it was more like a 7:30pm meal. At least we were all together! 8-)

I meant to get a photo of the food before it got dug into, but..... You know how that goes! So this is the closest thing to it! On the menu was beef, chicken, layered salad, coleslaw, potato salad, cake and ice-cream! Mmm....

This is DD2, my mom and dad (the anniversary couple), and DD1.

Then there is my baby brother 8-) and his wife, my s-i-l... They have been married for 25 years. They are the one's that are getting the "anniversary quilt" if it ever gets done!!! I shall be working on it at the day retreat this Sunday! I am hoping to make a good day of it, and have the binding and sleeve on this week! Then, there will be another BBQ dinner to host! 8-)

Next is the DH and DS filling their plates.

The cake!

DS and his new/first GF. Seems like a nice girl. Not shy at all. Our girls found her chatty enough, pleasant...

Ruby passed out cold on DD1's lap after a zillion laps of the backyard... 8-) She had us all laughing! She's a little nut! In one month she will be a year old already!

Lastly, cause we were all looking at DD2's photos from her trip Down Under, is a photo of her holding a 6 year old Koala named Wendel... She said that he felt more wooly than furry... Cute hey!? 8-)

Big time change from Australia's time...

DD#2 had lots of energy at 3AM when she came home this morning, it seemed, but went to bed, slept, and had her alarm set for 8:30AM to see her Daddy before he left for work....

She did pretty good all day. She dug around in her suitcase for all her gifts and treasures, and did some laundry. We went for a walk with the fur girls, got groceries (she placed an order for supper), watched a bit of TV, and by 4:30PM she was snuggled, asleep, and even snoring a bit! 8-) The sleep is finally catching up with her....See how Dora blends into the black couch!?!

DD2 woke when DS came home from work, and then her best friend called, joined us for dinner, and the the photo presentation began.... She lasted longer than me in the evening! I went to bed around 9:30pm...DD goes back to work tomorrow for 10AM... I think she will manage. 8-)

She had a wonderful time in New Zealand, Australia, and Fiji, but she is glad to be home too now....

Very little sleep....serves me right!

Went to bed around midnight, only to toss and turn because my arm was sore. "Why is my arm sore?" hmmmmmmm?

1:30AM the phone rings, "Did someone forget to come pick me up?" .....?..... "Holy Sh__!!! Amie is at the airport! She's not supposed to be home till tomorrow this time!?! .... Isn't she? YIKES!!!"

So, I jumps into some clothes, and out the door.... then I had the battle of which vehicle to take.....hmmmm? "That one most accessible is not road worthy cause DH is working on it still, mine I can't get out of the garage cause DS is parked right there in front, I guess I am taking DD#2's car!.... ? The standard driving one. .... Where are the keys?" I can drive standard, but my knees don't like me to... And my arm!!! "Why is it so sore?"

I got to the airport around 2:20AM, and after hugs and kisses, we loaded all her luggage into the car and home we went.... me realizing along the way that DD's bed wasn't made yet! DH had just put her furniture back in the room during the day (DS did her flooring while she was gone), and I was to do the rest to have it ready for here today....ha! Today! NOT! Anyway, DH made her bed while I was gone to pick her up at the airport. How sweet is that!?

Once back in bed at about 3:30AM I finally realize why my arm is sore (like the dickens)! Let's just say I will not be trimming that many squares in one day again.... Arm is still really sore this morning.... Live and learn!!! 8-/
Photo of DD#2 this morning with the fur girls glued to her hips! I think they missed her! 8-)

Time to get off this comp and see all what DD has to show and tell!

Later! 8-)

Full of Mo-Jo.....

That's right! I either got my Mo-Jo back, or Finn's Mo-Jo found it's way to me....

I have been sewing, cutting, and arranging up a storm today! Woohoo for me!!! And I DID start another project!!! So much for getting more UFOs done! I think maybe my Mo-Jo got lost in a UFO funk..... so something new was just the thing I needed today! 8-) ....

This is what I look like at the comp in the morn.... after I make my day's first cup of coffee.... Good thing we have air-conditioning, otherwise those fur girls wouldn't be sitting on me!!! Ruby doesn't seem to realize that she is actually too big to lay on me like that any more.... Goofy girl! 8-)
There is my start for the day! Two charm packs, and some neutrals that I cut up first thing.... Doing my markings....
Getting the sewing done.... Pfaffy and I were friends today. Bonded quite nicely, so much so, that I think I will attempt to do more on the anniversary quilt tomorrow.... Keep your fingers crossed for me!
The train is coming along quite nicely.....
My side-kicks on the chair in my sewing room.... non too impressed with me spending the day in there.... DH took them for their walk tonight, so I don't have to feel guilty any more...Trimming up the half square triangles.... There were sooooo many of them!!! 8-)
The start of the layout on my display wall.... I need a bigger display wall...... shall have to fix that problem soon....
This is as far as I got for today.... Not a bad day I would say! Not a bad day at all! Very productive! 8-)
My only troubles today was my feet swelling again, and a sore back!!! Seems every time I spend a lot of time sitting at the sewing machine my feet swell!?! Good thing I am going to the doc's next week!!!

Still don't have my new glasses. I am needing them badly. My existing glasses are driving me kind of nutty. Can't see right with them, and can't see right without them, so they have been on and off my face over the weekend....

That be it for now folks! Time for bed...

Sunday doings....

The morning took us to breakfast at Salisbury House and a home visit to our old neighbors. Old not meaning their age, but that we had been past neighbors back in Oakbank, which is 15 minutes from Winnipeg. They moved back to Winnipeg about a year before us, and we are in walking distance of each other now. We had been neighbors for 16 years. Our children grew up together, we faced many challenges together, and now their oldest is getting married later this month. Years have flown by so very fast since our initial introductions...

Once back home, and after a walk with the fur girls, my parents dropped by for a visit, and true to their form, the fur girls kept my father well entertained with their antics! 8-) Later this week my parents will celebrate their 49th wedding anniversary. I think a family dinner out will be in order.... 8-)

The evening was a laid back one watching TV....

And, as every post needs a photo, here is another photo complements of my cousin LiaL. Isn't this one awesome!?!
If I am not mistaken, these are 2 baby hawks...or eagles... Lia, can you clarify this for us?

I hope everyone had a good long weekend!

More Saturday Snippets....

First, I must show you something that I forgot to post yesterday. When we were at Kickass Quilt Shop, Wayne and Carol showed us the Gypsy Gripper and the Little Gripper. I think the photo of them speaks for themselves, except to say the are great for people with arthritis, or other hand/wrist problems. So, we are home, stuffed and satisfied from our meal, complete with before meal cocktail, and after meal desert!!! We had a good time catching up with W and J. Had quite a few laughs too. Didn't we W? 8-)

Till tomorrow I bid you all good-night.... 8-)

Saturday Snippets....

Go to my friend's blog "Quilter Going Bananas" to see the photo of her Pineapple Quilt. It's just lovely! I hope to make one in my life-time... first the UFOs that are hanging on my backside....8-/

Tis a cool, cloudy looking day out there today, but out walking the fur girls I found out different. At first there was a bit of a cool breeze, but it was not long to last. Came in to check the weather reports.I is 21 degrees Celsius with a 73% Humidity....Yuck!

Going out for dinner to Olive Garden with our good friends W & J. (I know you are salivating Pg) We've been friends with them for over 15 years. We met at our Church through church functions, and our children, being of the same ages. We haven't been out together in a long while, so I am looking forward to spending time with them tonight.

More tonight.... 8-)

What a Kickass trip! 8-)

Those quilters that live in Manitoba know what I mean by this title, but for those of you that don't, "Kickass" is a lovely little quilt shop in the lovely little town of Plumas. It is about a two, two and a half hour drive from Winnipeg. We left early in the day, spent about an hour and a half in the shop, toddled across to the hotel restaurant for lunch, enjoyed the town garden and mural, and headed on home in time for supper.

OH! And on the way out there we drove past some Amish homesteads, and saw two horse and buggy sets, with women dressed in all black, bonnets, capes, and all.... I wish I had my camera out and ready! I did on the way home, but there were no buggies to be seen... The Amish moved to the area in the last 2-3 years from Ontario I believe. What a wonderful addition to Manitoba! 8-)

Here are the day's photos:
Kickass General Store - seriously, click on the photo to enlarge and see that it really is called that! They are in the process of building a new and improved website. Should be ready soon. They are very good with online or/and phone orders...
There were even 2 more rooms that I did not take photos of.... Lots of lovely things to see, feel, and purchase! This is my haul for the day. I seem to be into buying charm packs (on sale). Got a burgandy pre-printed mini whole cloth block. I thought it would be a nice touch (as a toss pillow) to the fabrics I have for a king-size quilt for our bed. Click on image for larger view. 8-)THE Plumas Inn complete with our mode of travel.
A typical small town cafe. Nothing fancy, but the food was good.
The Plumas Gardens, with the mural on their General Store... click photo...The Town Clock in the middle of the garden.... Would look nicer if it had a fence of some sort to hide the vehicles in behind...Pg's scrappy car quilt.... Her grand-daughter was either snuggling under it, or making a tent out of it in the back. I guess the air-conditioning was too cool for her.And lastly, this is a jar of Udderly Smooth Cream. I bought this years ago at Wal-Mart once, loved it, and then never found it anywhere again. Found their lotions, but it is not the same as the cream. (It has a mild scent, is non-greasy, and made my feet soooo smooth and soft.) Well, Carol sells it in her shop, AND cheaper than what I paid at Wal-Mart!!! Go figure!?! Of course I had to buy some! It meant a little less to spend on fabric, but it is worth it! Well, that is it for today! I hope you enjoyed the photos in this posting! 8-)

What a nice brother...

DS laid down Laminate flooring in DD#2's bedroom. (He does flooring with his uncle) She will be soooo happy to see her bedroom floor is done when she gets home from her Australian trip. This weekend we will do the clean-up, and put her room put back in order. She comes home very early Wednesday morning....Then the poor girls has to kick into work mode right away.... Sad she doesn't have 2 days to take it ease and regulate her days and nights. She's going to be sooooo jet lagged!

Our dear Vf always has a couple of games and prizes prepared for our parties. She's a peach! These are my winnings! A 2002 Peacemakers calendar with pretty trees and little animals... some hidden in the trees....Thanks Vf! And a Christmas Bells and Bows fat quarter....Thanks Cd! 8-)

Word from DD#2....

Heard from DD#2 last night. She is having a blast in Australia still. Yesterday they were to try out surfing... I hope there are no sharks! Yikes! Is Mamma nervous? YES!

Here is, in her words, how the day went, "
I went swimming in the ocean today, we had some good 6 and 7 foot waves that Shawn and I swam. Then in the afternoon we went surfing, it is tough, we went on small 3 and 4 foot waves though. I couldn't really get the hang of it, it is hard to get to your feet, but riding on your knees is pretty cool too."

They had climbed the Sydney Harbor Bridge as planned. She said it didn't seem as high as she had thought. I don't know all the details of names and such of some places, but they went to a zoo, the Crocodile Hunter's nature place, she has petted and fed kangaroos, held a 6 year old koala bear, etc, etc. Sounds like they have plans and things lined up everyday. She also mentioned that they have been staying in some very nice hostels....

Next, they travel back to New Zealand for an overnight before heading to Fiji for the rest of their experience down there. What a wonderful trip...I should have done more traveling when I was that age.

What a disappointing weekend!

I started posting this on Friday night...

First, I forgot to mention what I did yesterday (Thusday) at Wonky Bits! I tucked in threads from my free motion quilting on the anniversary quilt. The gals also gave me some advice on how to do the rest of the quilting (that I was having trouble with). Thanks ladies! 8-)
I also worked on the applique on my UFO "paper pieced log cabin" project.

Today (Friday) I had a lovely day! I went to a new friend's home to do some stitching. There were 5 of us, nibble foods (yum), and A/C!!! 8-) I did more applique, same project. I have the 4th corner (bottom right) pieces all glued down and ready for stitching...I have to cut out more leaves for that corner too.... Bit by bit things are getting done. I still refuse to start anything new until I am caught up on my UFOs.

If you recall, we were shown by Pg a while back, how to put together the "hotdog" pillow-case method with hidden seams. Well, Cd tried that out today. She was so happy with how it worked out! I think there will be many pillow-cases made by her hands in the next while!

My poor fur girls are not impressed with their Mummy today! Gone 2 days in a row!!! Not good! I can't bare to tell them that "Mummy" will be gone all day tomorrow...even longer, as we have a 50th wedding anniversary to attend starting at 3pm. I hope DS will be around a bit to entertain them... 8-)

Today's actual post:
Well, my weekend didn't go at all as planned. Went to bed on Friday night feeling fine, woke often through the night with a sore stomach. In the morning I got up and out with the fur girls for their walk. I made it a very short walk as I was feeling chilled and loosing energy very fast. Feeling very weak. No wonder! I had the stomach flu. My hubby had it on Wednesday/Thursday, but normally I don't get things like this. Anyway, I missed my Aunt and Uncle's 50th Anniversary. I was so looking forward to seeing all my cousin's that I haven't seen for years... I ended up spending all day Saturday and Sunday on the couch watching TV or sleeping. Today I finally feel up to sitting at the comp.

In seeing an add for Folklorama on the TV this weekend, I thought I would share something with you. A lot of my friends don't know about this little part of my past. First though, for those of you that are not familiar with Folklorama, it is a 2 week festival in Winnipeg, celebrating all cultures and ethnic backgrounds in pavilions throughout Winnipeg. See here for info.

Today's Pavilions are represented by an adult set and a teenage set of ambassadors, but back in 1978 the pavilions were still represented by a young gal of that culture, chosen through talent pageants, and dubed as Miss ________.

So, here is what
many don't know about me. I was crowned as Miss Holland 1078, by Sylvia Kuzyk weather lady of CTV News.
It was a wonder
ful experience of a summer full of fun with about 30 of us young women from all kinds of backgrounds...
One photo is of myself in the Folklorama parade, the other is of me in my Dutch costume from the town of Walcheren, in the province of Zeeland. I bet you didn't know there were more than most commonly known costume hey?! There are actually a lot more!!! 8-)

Wonky Bits Day!

Oh the humidity!!!

At 8:00am I stepped outside for my morning walk with the fur girls, 94% humidity!!! 94% at that time of the morning already, and the afternoon temps weren't even here yet!!! YUCK! And the temperature high today reached 27 degrees, with the humidity on top of that! Talk about ready to wilt!

Thank goodness for air-conditioned homes, cars, and stores! And thank goodness the church that we hold our Wonky Bits gatherings in is also air-conditioned!!! 8-)

We had a small group of 6 today, but fun we did have! Not much for show and tell today...forgot to take a photo of J's little place-mats, sorry J! At last minute I took a photo of what D was machine quilting away at today.
Once home I thought, "what else could I post a photo of?" I just had to look up, and I found it! My finished quilts display wall that is waiting patiently for a fully finished quilt to hang there! My hubby made the shelf for me at the old house, where it was being used for curtains over my garden doors. I wasn't about to leave it behind!!! Good shelf for displays in my dining area.....
I had been storing my sandwiched UFO quilts on the spare bed, but find myself in need of the bed this weekend, so thought to hang them here... at least they are hanging!!! 8-)
