This and That and a PIF Reveal...

Prior to Christmas I was finishing up some table topper gifts. With this one I used my "Edge Guide" for the first time. I like it!! 8-)

Boys will be boys at Christmas! I think DS has found the little brother he never had in DD2's boyfriend, MrRose. You are never too old for Lego, or Sock'em Bop'em blowup punchers...

There is always time to play that new game you got for Christmas... RISK...
And you are never too old for building a Gingerbread House... even though you may build it with more tools... Besides the drill, note the glue-gun to the right... and apparently the tree belongs on the roof, and one gingerbread man needs to dangle from it... Note the sky-light window? lol

MrRose is one that is always fidgety and needs to be busy, so I think buying the gingerbread house kit was a good idea... They spent an hour and a half building it! 8-)

It snowed and blowed all of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day... Made for rotten driving conditions, but we managed... only got stuck once... 8-)
Now for the PIF reveal!!!
This is the table topper I made for Lurline.
I had fun making it for her... 8-)
Christmas Day morning...
Our fur-girls usually sleep in their kennels at night, but when we have been out all evening where they've already been in their kennels, we often let them sleep with us... Here they are sandwiching DH... Makes it hard to move around... 8-)
Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas with your families!
I did!

Second PIF gift received... I hear...

My second PIF gift has been received by our lovely Lurline, but I think she is teasing me by waiting till Christmas to open it... Lurline, its not a Christmas gift! Honest, you can open it! 8-)
Can you help me talk her into opening it? lol! 8-)

EDIT: Lurline opened her PIF gift, so now I can show it...
I had fun making it for you Lurline! 8-)

The weekend past...

On Friday night I decorated our little table topper tree...
Here it is in 3 different camera settings...
Being a small tree this year, I chose to only put in my favorite light weight decorations... Mostly homemade ones... 8-)

I thought I wouldn't be able to buy another addition to my village this year, as last year I had these pieces jammed into one of my shelves. DH had the great idea of pulling out the drawers on the wall-unit, lay two 2x4s across them, and set the village on there. Works out great, and I think I can indeed add a new piece this year!!! 8-)
I have no room to set up my inherited Nativity Scene this year, but there are 2 small Nativities in the tree! 8-)
I love living in string lighting and candles during the holidays...
As you can tell on the photos...
But my family didn't care for it when we had them all over last night for DS's birthday... 8-(
"It's too dark!" "Can't see what I'm eating!" "I can barely see you!"

My 6'5" baby of the family turns 22 this coming Wednesday, but he works a lot of overtime that we decided to have it on Sunday... I feel the poor boy always gets the short end having his birthday so darn close to Christmas... He was supposed to enter the world on Dec 15th twenty-two years ago....!!!!! lol!

At any rate, we had a nice gathering, the Dairy Queen ice-cream cake was yummy, and we get to have everyone over again on Boxing Day, for our Christmas...

Today I finished up the coffee table's Christmas table-toppers for my mother... I did the stitch and flip out method on them, but next time I will stick to doing a binding...
I put a Gingerbread backing on them... 8-)
Well that is the update from my weekend...

I have to finish "making my list, and checking it twice", so that I only have to be out and do the final bits of shopping once before the 3 days of Christmas is upon me... 8-)

Hope you are keeping well with the business of the season!

Oh Santa pleeeeeease....

Dear Santa,

Yes I believe I have been a good girl this year.

All I want for Christmas is.... nooooo not my two front teeth, I have those thanks!

All I want for Christmas is an iRobot Roomba, the bestest model if possible please! My quilting friend Paulette has one and she says "It's great! Especially with shedding dogs in the house! You've got to get one!!!"

Well Santa, I too have 2 dogs in the house that shed a lot!!! So please Santa, would you consider placing an iRobot Roomba under our tree for Christmas morning?

Pleeeeeeeeeeeeease........ 8-)

Love you!

Party Night and a Show and Tell...

We had our Christmas dinner/party last night! We were 23 strong, though one gal had to leave early, thus we miss her in the photo, and 7 others couldn't make it... I didn't realize our group was so darn big!!! A great group of ladies, with much fun and laughing!!! 8-)
The food was wonderful! A full turkey dinner/pot-luck!
Yum..... Thanks Sd, ladies!!! 8-)

This blurry photo, but lovely quilt was made by Cd, for a grandmother, to bring to China for her grandchild... Love the colors/fabrics Cd!!! 8-)
We played a couple of games, always fun, and I won the green FQ. It has some gold running through it... The Red Hats pattern I picked out of a pile of things that Cd wanted to unload... Thanks Cd! 8-)
I am impatiently waiting for Lurline's parcel to show up at her place now that Julie has received hers. It should be any hour now...
Jenny and Blossom's will take a while yet...

DD2 came to try on her dress after the alterations. Thank goodness I didn't have to change it and do any more alterations. I sure didn't like working with that stretchy slippery fabric...

Hope you are all staying fairly healthy with the hustle-bustle of the season...
Happy Stitchings!

Julie's PIF gift received...

I can now reveal one of my secret creations because Julie has received it!!!

Julie's family has a farm with cows and chickens (chooks), thus thought to make something showing one... Chooks it was! I had the kids in mind here too, so I made something fun... 8-)
I put their family name on the mailbox, but blocked it out for privacy... You know... 8-)
You can visit Julie's blog to see some of the other goodies I sent along... The wall-quilt may blow up bigger on her blog for a closer look, and be brighter as it was taken outside in daylight...

...and because I like playing with photos, here is the cartoon of the same photo... 8-)Glad you like the quilt Julie! 8-)
~~~~~~~~~~
One PIF shown now, 3 more to go! 8-)
Happy stitchings all!
Myra
PS: My dad is his old self... he went to see his doc today... Doc figures, by Mom's discription, it was a seizure Dad had, and he will get things lined up for him to see some specialists...
Hopefully sooner than much later I'm thinking...
It has been 2 years...
... and I'm doing more unpacking!!! 8-)
I was getting tired of the boxes being in my way in my bedroom closet. So, for whatever reason, today I decided to unpack them. To see what I have and haven't been missing.
These figurines are not collector items, nor expensive (I think), but they hold special memories/feelings from my childhood when we used to visit Grandma and Grandpa...
I filled this vase with items I found in a plastic container. The red sand is from Prince Edward Island, and the other seaside goodies are only a few items from our children's efforts of beachcombing on the beaches of Newfoundland...
Now, time to do the alterations on DD2's dress for her Christmas banquet on Friday... 8-)
Happy stitchings!
Haste makes waste...
As in 2 steps forward and 1 step back...
That is what my day has been like today... Rushing to make some Christmas table-toppers... I should have gotten 4 tops done today, but ended up with 3 due to much un-sewing... rip-it!!! Such is life in the sewing room at times... right!?! 8-)
I figure to get all the tops and binding made, and then get down to quilting them all one after another... in good time I hope! 8-)
Table-topper/candle mat... 8-)
I love making these...
For my Dad, and Joycee's DH, I must say thanks to you all sooooo much for your thoughts, suggestions, and prayers.
Joycee says that her hubby has had heart surgery and is doing well. That is all I know thus far...
We popped in on Dad on Saturday, before the wedding reception, to see how he was doing. He seemed to be his old self. We are taking my parents out for brunch tomorrow to Cora's. From some of yours and family suggestions, we will discuss some specialists that we think Dad should talk to his doctor about seeing... These "episodes" are quite worrisome, and need to be explained as to why they've been happening...
The wedding was wonderful. It was a double wedding, and a 40th anniversary renewal of vows. The mom and dad's 4oth, and the 2 daughters and their grooms wed!!! My DH works with one of the gals that got married... All ceremonies done together in 1-hour... The reception was very big and formal, with about 450 people... Buffet style dinner/dance.
Hope you all had a wonderful weekend! 8-)
Will catch up on your blogs tomorrow...
Tea-cup Dolly and a trip to the hospital... again!!!
In yesterday's post I showed you the recent magazine that the Tea-cup Dolly pattern is in. Here is the link to the website where the pattern is sold. There are some really cute patterns there... Some similar ones too...
Part of the instructions for the Tea-cup Dolly was missing from the magazine, and can be found on the website. Also there, under tutorials, is a better instruction for working the dolly's arms, which worked out really well...
To finish mine, I need to get to a craft store for some "mini" items...
~~~~~~~~~~~~
I had a some stress in the wee hours of this morning. I was just getting ready for bed at 1:00am when my mother called to say that my dad had another "episode" (info of his 1st in this post a year ago) while visiting with the same friends as last time. This time though, an ambulance ride and an overnight stay at the hospital.
I went straight to the hospital, as did my brother, after Mom's call... We were not impressed with the doc at this hospital. Last time, different hospital, we were told it was a mini stroke. This morning's episode was worse, and 4 times longer than last time. This doc said he just fainted...
If not another mini stroke, I'd say it could have even been a seizure judging by the description from my Mom...
We are waiting for a 24-hour monitor to be available for Dad to wear, again, and my parents will go see their family doc on Monday and ask for Dad to see a neurologist.
Dad seems ok right now... 8-)
Never a dull moment...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
With lack of sleep, we are off to a wedding today...
I hope I can stay awake till after the dinner... ;-)
Hope you are all having a great weekend!
Progress...
She's not fully done yet, but here is another peek... 8-)
...and my mess behind it...
My bit of progress since my evening outing...She comes from the Country Threads Mag, Vol 10 No 1.
One of my 3 new mags I bought last week...
More on that tomorrow.And here is a quilt that friend Hc made.
It was hanging in the party room at her condo,
where the Pot-Luck was tonight...
Time for bed...
Nighty night! 8-)
Myra
Any guesses?
I'm sure it will not be hard to guess what I am up to now... 8-)
Won't have much more done today... time to go to a Christmas Pot-Luck Dinner from my church...
Hopefully I will have it done tomorrow...
It is a trial run project... 8-)
Whoohoo!!! It came!
My magazine finally came! Yippeeeeeeeee! 8-)
Whew! I was starting to think that maybe I even accidentally recycled it!!!
Happy, happy, happy! 8-)
One of my Wonky Bits gals is helping to sell cookbooks for a fund-raiser for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at one of our hospitals. Her 7-month old grand-daughter has been there since the day she was born. They take very good care of her.
We are all doing our part supporting them by purchasing the 1.25" thick cookbook...
Some yummy looking recipes in there! 8-)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We received some shocking news at Wonky Bits today too. Our Joycee's husband had a heart-attack in the wee hours of the morning. Sounds like he is holding his own, but needs surgery. Please keep him in your prayers...

I am in the process of making something, but not quite ready to show it yet...

Happy stitchings!

Made a simple little tree skirt today...

I have a small Christmas tree on one of our side coffee tables that needed a little tree-skirt, and now it has one! 8-)

I had trouble making a perfect 24" circle, so I thought to try using a pivot point at Pfaffy and see how that goes... It went pretty good! Got a perfect circle. 8-)

Left an opening to turn out, and instead of clipping I cut little arches around the whole thing. I had seen this somewhere, thus thought to try it. Worked out pretty good! Once turned out I just shook it out, ironed, and top-stitched.

I then cut an off center hole for the tree, clipped, turned under the edge, top-stitched, and done! The hole is big enough to put the tree stem through, and then put the little legs on it to stand...

Here is a little video of the pivoting...

Check this out, "Daddy in the crib with baby" YouTube Video... funny...

Time to go and decorate the little tree... 8-)
