It rained this morn. I poked my head out the front door to collect the mail and I was pleasantly assaulted by the fresh aroma you get after a rainfall, and of the Shubert Chokecherry trees out front!

I believe our tree is a sucker off the neighbor's tree. The flowers are not open on ours as of yet. Maybe tomorrow, or the next day.
The flowers/aroma don't last long, so it has to be enjoyed when it is here...
A hedge separates our trees. Once the flowers are done, the tree will start to turn a deep burgandy... We planted one of these trees at our old house. I was pleasantly surprized to have a Shurbert in our yard at this house the first Spring we had here... 8-)

We have lots of wild chokecherries here. Are they the same? I usually make jelly from the wild ones.
I have heard of a chokecherry tree but I have not seen one. I assume it doesn't really grow cherries, just blossoms?

Those trees appear to be lovely....wish I could smell those pretty flowers, too!

We are looking at planting some trees in our yard this year. Do you know if that tree in your yard has roots that spreads out or down? We have a pool, so we have to make sure we don't get one that spreads out.
