A sew, snow, cold day... Spring... right!!!

We woke this morning to a cold (in more ways than one), snowy, and blistery day! Spring! Ya right...... 8-/
Snow stuck to the front window, and snow filling the outside window ledge...
It was d__n cold!!! Not only outside, but in the house!!! At 9am I looked at the thermostat, and what I have it set for is 68*F, but it were no where near that!!! It was 62*F!!! Brrrrr.....
The fur-girls and I closed ourselves up in the sewing room for most of the day with a dish heater to keep us toasty, while DH did his own thing in his workshop, and waiting for the furnace man to come fix the problem... I took a break to bake some muffins to help warm up the house a bit, and DH took a turn and baked some butter tarts... Mr Furnace man came and by 4pm the temp in the house was back to normal!!! 8-)

I worked on my envelop bag today. Figured out how I wanted to quilt it, and went for it!
It turned out not bad, but next time I will draw the curved lines on it first...
When making/ironing my bias binding, I was reminded of all of the times you hear of a friend slightly burn their fingers while trying to open the 1/4" seam to press open. Well, I thought there must be a better way to do this without burning one's fingers!!!
I opened the start of the seam with my fingers and put my stylus across it, and started pressing. As I moved up with the iron, I slid the stylus along the seam and it opened beautifully for the iron to pass over. No more burnt fingers!!! 8-)

Binding is now attached, and ready for hand stitching...
THEN it can be made into the envelop bag... 8-)

Any guesses as to what kind of animal this is?
I shall let you know tomorrow... 8-)

What a clever idea with the stylus!!
Is that a Tasmanian Devil?

This weather is incredible and now we have water running over our road so we are a bit stranded here.
Good idea to use the stylus for pressing. I have one that I use with my quilting machine, having a great fear of sewing my fingers to my quilt. Maybe it will migrate to my ironing board.

Love that idea to get the seam open. I may have to mention it on one of my blog posts and link my blog readers to your blog, okay? Sorry you had more snow and also that furnace problem. *sigh* By the time spring gets here, it will be SUMMER.

Could have been worse. My friend's new furnace (installed in Oct. 2008) gave out and her temp went down to 54 before the furnace guy came. She was walking around with her winter coat on. Glad you're all toasty warm now. Your husband bakes? How nice. Mine does eggs and the BBQ fare. I refuse to learn how to turn on the BBQ.

Well, you are still getting snow too then. Good!!!! Not good about the furnace though (I keep my temp the same as you!!). I am glad that it's back to keep you warm. Good idea though to close the door to the sewing room and barricade yourslelf inside with a heater. The muffins was a good idea too. Did they rise??? ;-)
good to know hubby bakes too. So does mine. It's nice.

We are cold today - Myra, are you near that flooding I see on the news??? Not funny. Not funny at all. If you are neat it, get a boat okay?? Like a houseboat - then I won't worry 'bout cha.

There's no better place to be on a cold day than camped out in the sewing room. Looks like you've been getting lots done and those little fur girls are a big help I'm sure! That's not a new fur girl/guy is it? - Marlene

I thought the stitching on the back made it look like a double wedding ring quilt. Great idea for saving burnt fingers! I don't know what an envelop bag is, but it looks lovely. The animal.....looks like a dog, but I have a feeling it is not.
