My Lug-a-Mug Bag

What a cool day we are having today... I was cold in bed last night too. Felt like putting the furnace on again... Very weird summer... Indeed!!

I washed up my cup I use for lugging around, and thought to see how many of you lug your own mug on outings to meetings and such...

My quilting mug and padded bag for lugging...
Mug bagged up! Ready to grab and go...Ha! I see I need to make a new label for my mug!!! Still lugging it around with my old address and phone number!!! Oops! 8-)
Taking and using your Lug-a-Mug saves on paper cups, styrofoam cups, and saves time on washing up mugs at our outings. Just bring your dirty cup home with a serviette inside to soak up cup bottoms, and pop in dishwasher...Wash bag every so often... 8-)

A lot of times I forget to bring my mug, but the intention is there... lol!

Has anyone been to Cora's restaurant here in Winnipeg? We went with friends for lunch on Saturday. What a great time we had, and the food was excellent! Even the presentation was lovely... Had a few bites before thinking to take a photo of the lovely plates... Mine on left, egg/ham/cheese wrapped and grilled in a crepe with fresh fruit. DH's on right, grilled cinnamon bun under bacon and eggs, and fresh fruit... Yummy! 8-)

My winnings from a family Bridal Shower on Sunday! The candle smells wonderful, and the flowers are gorgeous. My 2 daughters also won wonderfully scented candles... We wond 4 out of 5 gifts... What a lucky day! I should have bought a lottery ticket! 8-)

Cleaning up my sewing room today! Getting ready for some serious sewing... About time too!!! Plus, at some point this week, I am going to attempt to make my blog into 3 columns instead of the 2... wish me luck! I did our quilt group's new private blog and it went we
ll, so I am hoping nothing disappears from mine in the process....

Have a great day!

Hopping around...

This family of feathers (Canada Geese) were crossing, at the crosswalk, about 2 miles inside the city limits, on the east side of our city, not that long ago...
I think this would be more than one family... 8-)
I just discovered an awesome site visiting Lurline's blog. She is doing one of their BOMs... It is called Material Obsession. I know a whole bunch of you gals have seen this blog before, but it is new to me... I think...?... or for the first time again maybe!?! lol! Check it out. She has some awesome creations happening there! 8-)

I read on Pat's blog of a great tute/way that she found to "square up" those blocks that may be a tad "off", with freezer paper, on Oh, Fransson's site. It is towards the bottom of the tute... Check it out! Thanks for the link Pat! Looks like a very helpful hint! 8-)

DD2 was at the hospital Thursday night from 9:30pm till about 3am Friday morning with MrRose (boyfriend), that ended up with a bit of heatstroke... The boy spent the day (38*C with the humidity) working on a roof all day. Though they keep well hydrated, he ended up quite ill, vomiting and shivering uncontrollably... DD2 forced him to the hospital, of course, a male!!! Anyway, he is home till Monday now and was told to wet his hat every so often to keep his head cool while working in that heat and humidity...

The fur-girls, totally oblivious of the rabbit outside watching them, in between her bites of fresh grass...
Hope you are all having a great weekend!

Wonky Bits Sew and Tell...

We were 8 ladies strong at Wonky Bits today. We even had a past member pop in for a very short visit... It was nice to have seen her again... I looked to see if I had a photo of her one claim to quilting, but was not successful. I think that was during pre-digital camera times for me... She made a lovely Red Hat Ladies Sampler quilt. A queen sized, all pieced and quilted by hand... It was lovely...
It was great seeing you again D! 8-)

This is the finished result of Kn's bag from the X-Bag workshop we had a while back. Looks great K! 8-)

As well, here is Lp's finished bag... Very Spring/Summery! A happy bag! 8-)
Lp was binding her donation Fall Table Topper...
Looking good! 8-)
The gals are doing the prep work for an Envelop Bag workshop we are doing in September. I had made one a while back, you can see it here.
Pg brought this one she made around 20 years ago to show us. I like her's much better. Not as bulky and stiff as mine, as they did not use batting in them at her workshop... This one is great! The flaps drape much nicer, and it has some sort of snap closure across the full center opening... Something that you find few and far between these days apparently. Anyway, in the 20 years that Pg has had her lovely bag she has never used it, thus she passed it on to me! What a gift! Thanks P! Love it! I will use it! 8-)

Here is the rest of the rows of Pg's (posted yesterday) class project (Criss Cross 2) from yesterday... We were all puzzling over why it wasn't working out, and finally found the 2 sections that got switched around in the process... Funny how these things seem to be more noticeable in photo, than on the floor... You have to be careful when using directional focus fabrics with this pattern too... Love it Pg!!! 8-)
And a better photo of Du's quilt top than in yesterday's post...
We had a wonderful day, but missed the gals that were not able to join us... Hopefully they can all make it next time...

This is a center piece from my parent's 50th anniversary. Each family member took one home...
Happy Stitchings!

PS: Seems the siggie things on my blog has been creating some problems for the last couple days. If you get any messages while viewing my blog, could you please inform me? I am trying to fix the problem...

Wednesday's Gathering Sew and Tell...

These darling bags started out as being a bargello quilt, but As did not like the way it was looking/going, and turned them into these frilly bags. Aren't they cute? 8-)
As also made this over the head shoulder bag. It is very unique. and very comfortable! Click on the photo for a closer look. I think it is from a Vogue pattern...
This is the front...
This is the back that would lean up against you...
Great for a hands free day! 8-)
Pg went to a class yesterday, and this is the result from her day. I believe it is called Criss Cross 2. Designed and taught by a local gal...
Du's progress on her girlfriend's lap-quilt...
So cheerful! 8-)
A visitor's creation she was busy with...
Noah still needs a face... 8-)
The fabrics that Yn was working with at the class that a few went to yesterday... Lovely fabrics! 8-)
Tis a Wonky Bits day today, so I best get ready to head on out of here...
Hopefully more sew and tell tonight!
Happy stitchings all! 8-)

A giveaway coming this friday...and a new BOM

Pop on over to M's blog to enter her 200th post giveaway! Click on photo button. She has a lovely wall-quilt she has made that would look great in my living-room color-wise...?... Better yet, don't enter the draw as this would give me a better chance of winning!!! lol! 8-)
While you are there you might as well congratulate her on her 10th wedding anniversary... 8-)
Happy stitchings, and good luck to you all....

There is a new BOM starting up this month by Fat Cat Designs. They are applique blocks and is called Southern Gentleman. Looks wonderful! So if you are up for some hand work... or machine applique, this may be for you! Do check it out.

Well, that's done!

The big "50" celebration is done, and life can get back to normal... thank goodness! 8-)
On Saturday it was my parent's actual anniversary day. We had a family day...
In this photo, after Mass, in private, my parents vowed their continued commitment to each other, and received a blessing...
After that we all came to our house for a BBQ. DH bbqing beef and chicken burgers... Mmmm......
Time to eat! 8-)
Raining outside, thus it was an indoor meal...
Wouldn't you know it, the only photo of me, and I was caught with my mouth full... Darn kids!
Mom and Dad cutting their cake for dessert...
The fur-girls were bombarded with attention... except while we were eating...
Sunday was the "big" celebration with extended family and friends...

This is it, our family here...
We took advantage of us all decked out to take a few family photos...

Our table at the feast... It was a lovely meal... Buffet style...
The kids table... They were sitting with my cousin and her hubby, but they stepped out for some "fresh air"... 8-)
DD2 and I had spent a few weeks scanning photos, and DD1 took them and made a wonderful slide-show presentation of them. It was a joy to watch! 8-)

All in all it was a great weekend....

Off to do the laundry now...
Happy stitchings! 8-)

A CCC quilt gathering night...

We had a great evening last night at our gathering. Twelve of us were present. A nice number! 8-)

Pg was finishing off the binding on her grand-daughter's quilt. Adorable!!! The quilt, and the baby! 8-)
Jm was also finishing off the binding, on her wall-quilt for her kitchen... Whoohoo just about done!!! J hasn't had much time for quilting lately, so she is indeed pleased! 8-)
I'm still plugging away on my long term hand-piecing project here... It measures about 34"x34" now... I just realized, I seem to be enjoying my hand stitching more than machine lately... hmmmm? What's up with that!?!
We had a visitor join us last night. This is B from Ontario. Her and her hubby have been camping in and around Manitoba for the last 2 weeks. She happened to drop by one of our gal's shops (which she is pondering buy a Phaff before she heads home), and a few of the gals invited her to join us... She travels/camps with her old singer... Wow hey!?! B was wonderful company! Fit right in! 8-)

And, as last week seemed to be green, this week we had lots of shades of purple, though some of it looks bluish on the photo... What a hoot! 8-)
I disfigure my friend's faces only to hide their identity, to respect their wishes...

For those that asked, my header photo is just a "fun effect" called "coloring book" in my Kodak photo program that came with my camera... Just a click of the mouse does it! Fun stuff! 8-)

Hope you are all having a great week!

Harry Potter and other movies seen...

Boy it has been quiet on my blog hasn't it? Just not into the blogging lately... Don't know why, but I guess a break is needed...

On Sunday DS took me out for lunch, and then to the movie theater to see the new Harry Potter film. I must say we were very disappointed in it. The book gave so much lead info into why/what happens in the final book, and the movie did not do that part justice. Then they left out the majority of the big ending too... I am sure that those that do not read the books, and only watch the movies will be some confused... I know that they can't put everything from the book into the movie, but we were left feeling let down... Ah well, we know the story thank goodness... It was a very nice afternoon spent with DS... 8-)

DH and I went out for a Chinese dinner (won't be going to that restaurant again) on Monday, and then went to rent some movies. These are the one's I picked out, DH picked out one's that I wouldn't/didn't watch...

"Mall Cop" was goofy, but entertaining, and "New in Town" was good! I love movies with Renee Zellweger.

I think I should make a list of all the movies I'd like to see, so that when I go to rent one, I can just pull one from on my list. I normally don't remember titles, so this would be good...

Tactile goodies...

Went to a fabric warehouse today to pick up the Pug fabric that a friend told me about, and of course more than that has to be bought... 8-)
The striped fabric for a PhD that I was short of... The cows just because... The brown for landscape quilts...
...and the fruit!?! That's for trying out the stack and whack pattern... Should be interesting, when I get around to it... :-/

The "doctored up" photo in the last post was done just to "hide" their identity... Simple as that... 8-)

A bit of sew and tell....

I don't have much to show for myself, but at least I have something to show of my wonderful quilting friends...

This is Pg's "picket fences" and a photo inset of the backing she used...
Looks great P! 8-)
Dk's "Cat" quilt in the process of having the binding sewn down... Bright and happy colors! 8-)
Another of Dk's, the "Pinwheel", also ready for sewing down the binding... Hand sewing the binding on quilts is a great bring along to work on...
Looking good Dk! 8-)
Finally, can you believe that 4 of 8 of us coincidentally wore green!?! Too funny!!! lol!
I hope you are all having a wonderful summer...?...or winter for some of you... 8-)

Wonky Bits yesterday...

6 of 13 ladies came out for our Wonky Bits day. We had some really good laughs and a good time! 8-)

First photo up are 2 of Pd's 6 place-mats that she is making for a Christmas gift... Needs to be machine appliqued, binding on, and then done!
Love the fabrics/pattern! 8-)

We played with Lp's D9-P blocks. She is making a Fall table topper to donate for a silent auction table... Here is a long sample...
... And here is a square sample...
We shall see which one Lp decides on...
Beautiful Fall colors! 8-)

And finally, we have Lp's wall-quilt. A Simple Pleasures pattern, by Terry Atkinson, "Rind Around the Posies". Lp was hand-sewing the binding some today...
Looking good L! 8-)
In case you are wondering what I worked on today, my good'ole Hexagons... 8-)

It was our Christmas in July Pot-Luck last night at our quilt gathering. Lots of yummy food to be had! Mmmmmm.....

The was lots of little handwork items being done, so not much to show yet but Ls's creation here. Isn't it lovely? Love the fabrics L! 8-)
Wonky Bits day today, so hopefully I shall have some more creations from our group....

Have a great day! 8-)
