DH cut the grass and stoned up the backyard flower bed yesterday... Dear fur-girl Ruby keeps eating things out of there, so I had suggested an edging of chicken-wire to keep her out, or something as she makes herself sick (in the house). DH said we'll try these rocks first as we had a collection of them from last summer's clean up of this "new" old house's yard... Looks pretty good! Just needs some more plants and to be filled in with some of the smaller rocks! 8-)
And that shrubby thing in the middle of the lawn is coming out in the Fall and getting planted somewhere else...
H picked up some soil and sod last night and laid it down...
This photo was taken this morning...
Here is what we are looking like so far... The previous owners didn't have anything in the big front flower beds. All they did was use Roundup Weedkiller to keep it clean for the 3 years that they lived here...

off to the garden center for some shrubs and plants...
Into the van and home to plant... 8-)
We are only planting about a third of the shrubs and perennials that we need this year, and will tackle more next Spring... Pretty costly. 8-)

I love garden centers and all the choices that there are for plantings. You will really be able to landscape the front of your house any way you like - such a clean slate. Let me know if you need some more perennials next Spring - I could start you some and drop them off. Can't believe the price of some of them out there! and I have quite a selection. - Marlene
Myra, I love the big rocks! I have a thing about rocks. Last summer our whole backyard was dug up with big heavy equipment to connect our neighbor to city sewer, and in the process, a gigantic boulder was unearthed and pushed down to the bottom of the hill behind our house, but still on our property. Oh how I wanted that humongous rock brought up into the yard so I could 'landscape' with it! But even the biggest piece of equipment they were using wouldn't have been able to bring it up. So I look at it every once in a while and imagine how nice it would have been. Oh well. :)
Love all the plants you are putting in. We've done just a little each year and I think we are finally running out of spots that need just a little something!

Oh, this is exciting - great makeover - I bet you are thrilled!

That is a lot of work but it will be worth it in the end!
Will we get "after" pictures, when you have planted? I would love that. What is the big round tree in your backyard called? I love to shop for the garden, and soon I have to buy something to put in the frontyard where we are building our new deck.
Lots of hard work but looks like it's paying off! Thanks for sharing your pictures and all! Looking forward to the after pictures!

Your hubby has been very busy. It's looking great!
Your garden looks great. We are talking about putting pebbles on our garden to keep the weeds at bay instead of straw hay. And make it look a lot neater and it wont blow every where.
