Busy with Brigitte the new quilter!

This is a photo of a baby panel that Bridget made into a quilt since the last time I saw her, before Christmas. She did the stitch, turn inside out thing on this one, then machine quilted it.
Done, gifted, gone... Nice job Brigitte! 8-)

 Brigitte says,
"It turned out OK considering my lack of experience and the baby mama was very happy. Baby Jeremiah is 2 months old and I held the quilt up to him and he became very interested in all the bright colours. That was project # 3 – all are fully finished! Now on to project # 4, a baby quilt for my cousin’s baby to be, in Holland, who is due in May. This one I am hand stitching the centre design of Noah’s Ark and I’ll machine stitch the straight lines around the outside. So far no PhD’s in quilting, but I won’t confess how many I have in cross-stitching.
 Happy sewing everyone!"

So, today B wanted to learn how to hand-quilt, and what better way to learn, but on another baby panel! We needed a few things, so off to the store to buy a hoop, proper thimble, and quilting thread....

I walked B through sandwiching & basting...
Spoon and all... 8-)
Then we rolled over the backing and pinned in place so that the raw edges don't get all ratty...
Then it was time to get down to the task of hand-quilting... B didn't feel comfortable with the thimble, or the rocking method, so she went about it in her own way, and did really well...
We all know that hand-quilting is a learn as you go with regards to stitch lengths... If you look closely, you can see she's done the elephants already...

While Brigitte was working on the above, I was hand-quilting on my "Many Thanks" PhD. My very first quilt endeavor from 10 years ago...
Yup! Still not done!!!
But it will hopefully be by the end of June!!!
You can see the individual blocks on this quilt, on 6 or so posts, by clicking here...

And... because a friend had asked me to email her the link, to the tutorial I used for making my iron cover (thanks Linda_J), I thought I'd
lead you all to the link also...
If you go to this post, towards the end, you will see my pattern cut out for it... It is handy for traveling home from a "quilt day" when the iron is hot!!!

If you are a tea sipper,
this is a wonderful tasting tea!!!
 Mmmmmm....

Hope you are all having a great weekend friends!
Happy stitchings!

Brigitte the New Quilter

Project #2 - a table topper for her ma for Christmas!
Looking good B! 8-)
Brigitte did a decorative machine stitch finish on this project's binding... Her comment about it, "I’m sure the corners aren’t perfect, but it turned out OK." - I say, "Well done B!" 8-)
On to your next project Brigitte!
Hmmm...? What will it be? 8-)

A future Blogger too maybe? (evil grin)

A Christmas Dinner...

Went with my Country Rose group to, where else, as always, Olive Garden, for our last gathering of 2010, in celebration of Christmas...
Here is Jb hiding behind her celery... 8-)
We had a delicious meal, lots of laughs, a good time...

I missed posting this photos of new quilter Brigitte with her
first table topper. Photo kind of fuzzy...
... Plus I had to color out something that was in the back ground. A Row Robin project!!! Can't give that secret away now can I... 8-)

B will be thrilled reading all the lovely comments that have been left on the last post about her progress... 8-)

Went Christmas shopping today... Yuk!!!
I don't like the crowds...

So far I've got 34 participants committed to doing the PhD Challenge along with me!!! I am just waiting to see all their projects posted on the group blog... Woohoo!!! Fun stuff! 8-)

Stay warm!!! ...?... or cool, depending where you live... 8-)

Adventures with the new quilter...

Well, we were at it again in the sewing room tonight...
Brigitte is making this table topper for her ma for Christmas...
Looking really good Brigitte!

Brigitte says, "Is there a quilter's anonymous? Looks like I am hooked! I feel a fever coming on...." and, "Second top made and the first one isn't even finished yet!!! Yikes!"

We don't know anything about things like that do we quilt bloggers!?! lol! 8-)

Happy stitchings!

which she finished up. On Monday we progress to making

B already has plans for a next project!!! 8-)
Stay tuned...

Check out my challenge! Maybe you'd like to play along...?

Off to our first Christmas event of the season!

Sharing the quilting knowledge...

Friend B, a sewer for years, has wanted to learn how to quilt for quite a while, so Saturday we got together to make a simple table topper...
A great project for learning on...
B picked from my "playful" Christmas fabrics. That is the top of the project on the spare table I set up for her...
I should have taken a photo of B with her machine...
Next weekend, she will come over to learn how to put the layers together, machine quilt, and maybe even get to the binding...

We were going to do some machine applique (like I did on this project and this project) too, but we feel that there is enough happening visually...

Will show you the completed table topper when B is done! 8-)

Another quilter in the making!!!

Happy stitchings!
