My little get away trip with friend Wendy...

We had never visited our own provinces south-western area, so that is what we did at the end of May... Beautiful hills, valleys, and waterways... In our part of Manitoba we live on flat prairie land...

We stopped for a coffee break,. and came to a place with a camel... in Manitoba, Canada!?! Yup! In Glenboro, a town just south of Manitoba's own Carberry Desert... A desert in Canada!?! Yup! We've got it! Hot stuff! 8-)
We ended up in the town Boissevain for the night, home of the big painted turtle... Due to Turtle Mountain Provincial Park being just south of it. 8-)
They have an lovely looking church there that had to be photographed, of course... 8-)
The next day, as we drove south, we came upon more of these wind turbines. We seem to be getting quite a few up in our province... New age...
Drove over the Canadian/US border at the International Peace Gardens. It would have been nice to stop there to have a look around, but it was raining quite hard at the time...

In the States, we stopped for a break in Dunseith, which also had a big turtle, due to being just south of that Turtle Mountain Park...
It was made of tire rims...
An interesting looking barn...
In Minot we visited the Scandinavian Heritage Center where they have a wonderful buildings on the grounds there to see... A lovely park like setting... We had a nice little tour...
This building had awesome carvings all over it... Too bad it was close. Would have loved to see the inside... I guess it only opens for tourist season in the summer...?
Further on in our 5 day tour, we stopped at the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center, Washburn, North Dakota. Had a nice little tour of the center and Fort Mandan. The fort was very compact.
Very interesting...
You know how many times I've been to Fargo and not seen this Visitors Center!?! Again, it wasn't open for us to pop in...
We did a fair amount of shopping and dining, but we also made time for our game playing in the evenings at the hotel... 8-)
We played Scrabble, Appletters, and didn't even have time for Canasta as we had planned cause we were having so much fun with the word games...

Did we stop in any quilt shops? No, but I did make it to Mills End Textiles in Fargo!!! 8-)
The first 5 and then 7 & 8th fabrics is what I bought there... The other fabrics I had
at home already....
Bought a couple new patterns, in hopes of making them for Gr-babe for next summer...
I also bought some yarn, and knitted 3 balls up already... Too bad I didn't buy enough for a whole baby afghan... I hope I can match some up at "Michael's" here!!
Tomorrow I will show you a finish from 2 weeks ago...?... Oops! It is the one in my header now... So much to catch up on when the comp has been down...

Now, time to see what you've all been up to!! 8-)

A scheduled post - As you read this, I am away for a "Mom's" 6-day getaway with a friend... Yippee!!!

First let me say "Thank-you!" to all that took the time to vote for my "Grandpa's Hollyhocks" last week!! Very much appreciated! It came in forth... 8-)

****************************************

I've decided to enter another one of my quilts!

This is the quilt I made for my brother and S-I-L for their 25th wedding anniversary in 2008... They are avid campers, fishers, hunters, and always exploring new lakes and surrounding areas.
I truly enjoyed making this quilt for them, and was pleased to hear they hung it up in their living-room, right that week I gave it to them... It is nice when someone appreciates your time and efforts in this way... 8-)

Entry photos for Contest "Wildlife" will pop up on Friday, and voting runs from Friday to Sunday midnight. There is only one vote per IP address.

Would love for you to go there and vote for mine, "Gone Camping"! 8-)

Thanks!

Bloggers' Quilt Festival!

Hi there! I'm another late comer to the festival! What a great idea for showcasing all our wonderful creations!!
Here, I am sharing the queen size quilt that I made last year, for my DD2 and her Mr.Rose, for their wedding gift. They wanted a wilderness themed quilt, since they are big into fishing and camping.

I didn't know where to begin, but for buying the appropriate fabrics for such a quilt. How to use them was another question.

Looking through my patterns/books nothing jumped out at me as "Yes! That is the one!" Then I then came upon something in my blog hopping visits, that I thought "something like that would be good", thus I designed this quilt to help showcase the fabrics...
I really enjoyed creating this quilt of love for my darlings, and they absolutely love it!! 8-)

Here are the pillow cases I included in the quilt gift... Tis a joy to see the quilt set on their bed...
With this project, I learned that I do produce well under pressure, and that I enjoyed creating the pattern for it. Now I am creating a "mystery quilt" for my quilt group, and I bought EQ-7 to play with... Fun stuff!

Thank you Amy for leading this Bloggers' Quilt Festival! Pop on over to check out all the lovely creations that were linked in for your viewing pleasure...

Enjoy!

Homemade Laundry Detergent

laundry detergent this week!

I ended up with just about 3 full jugs...
There are so many recipes out there for Homemade Laundry Detergent...
Cause I can't find the one I used again...

Pennies per wash compared to store bought...

We'll see how it performs!?!
Back to my laundry... 8-)
