PhD Challenge... Care to play along?

Projects Half Done

I have so many PhDs that need to make it to the finish line this year! 2010, it has to happen! I thought I would challenge myself to a 6 month stint ending on June 30th, with you all as my witnesses, and thought some of you may want to play along with me.
I would love to have company!!! 8-)

I listed my PhDs in my right hand sidebar, in no particular order, that I wish to get done. As I finish them I will link viewers to the finished project's post.

If you care to join me in this challenge let me know. I will add you and the number of PhDs you are committing to in my sidebar... I will link viewers to your blogs from there for others to see your progress, cheer you on, and can oooo and ahhhh over your finishes.
Please make your PhD commitment list in your sidebar also... 8-)

When you finish a PhD I will mark it as "done" beside your name on my sidebar to keep track as to how many PhDs we all can get to the finish line in 6 months! 8-)

Feel free to use the "Phd Challenge" button to link back to my blog, preferably this post, for others to join in the fun...

Keeping my fingers crossed to have company...

My PhD Commitment...
Wish me luck... I need it! lol! 8-)

A very near future first time trip...

... for us with good friends W&Jk!!!! 8-)
I found these photos free on the internet here...

I haven't been on a plane in years! Probably 20!!!
Have never been to Vegas, so this should be interesting!
Everyone is always telling me you have to experience Vegas at least once in your life! Well, I guess this will be my once! 8-)

Now, back to the laundry, and setting some goals...

Games, new building, new mag...

How sad... A brand new year and I havent' even done any sewing, sorting, or organizing in my sewing room yet... Thus, no firm plans for what to do in the PhD department...
I do know that I will be working on the Hollyhocks soon enough to "get'er done!", as my friend Pg would say. She has already hinted that I get my plans together to start on a wedding quilt for DD2 and MrRose... Which "YES" I hope to do!
I asked DD2 today what colors/shades she would want in a quilt... Get ready for it... Safari/animal prints...
Well... (tounge in cheek) that will make a swell wedding quilt!!! LOL!!! At least it will go with the other Safari items she has in her room already... 8-)
Besides the big "engagement" announcement we had on New Year's Eve, we tried a new card came that uses these sticks... Called "Sticks"...
On the first round we already ran into problems as the instructions were none to clear, and our friends who had played it once or twice before were unsure of some rules, so we scrapped that idea.... I do want to see if we can figure it out at some point though...
Then we went on to play Yahtzee! That was good fun! I hadn't played that in a long while... 8-)

Lots of yummy snacks to fill us throughout the evening... and once DD2 and MrRose came in for their announcement the gaming was done for the evening...

Good company! A great time was had New Year's Eve... 8-)

We've lived in the city for 2 years now, and we still go out to our old small town for Mass once a month... On Saturday we had our first Mass in this building. It is an old church, sold and made into a funeral home...
We had been having our services in another faith's place of worship in a small town strip mall for about 2 years. It was a time for change... This is a nice building, more "church" like, and we hope it will serve us well for the next while till we build our parish community some more, and raise enough funds to build a Catholic Church in this town... God willing! 8-)
Today we had DD2, MrRose, and DS over for brunch. We learned a new game from Mr.Rose called "SETS". It was a fun game, one I know we will play again! Then the boys all went outside to work on DS's truck, and DD2 and I looked up wedding stuff on the internet...

DD1 gave me this magazine for Christmas... There is some nice projects in there to read up on and ponder...
Well, that be it from me today...
Just thought I should post something!!!
Tomorrow all goes back to normal. DH goes back to work, and I go back to laundry and the like, and hopefully get going on things in my sewing room!!!

Hope you all had a great weekend!
Happy stitchings!
Myra
PS: If anyone has clear instructions on how to play "Sticks", please do email them to me... if it is not too much trouble... I would surely appreciate it! 8-)
PPS: I managed for find what looks like great instructions online for the "Sticks" card game!

Oh my God!!!

To say I didn't see it coming would be untrue, but I didn't even get to say "It's about time" to them, cause it came so fast!!!

DD2 and MrRose are now engaged!!!
He hid the ring in a Kinder Surprise chocolate egg and gave it to her at a minute before midnight on Dec 31st, 2009!!! They came into the house around 12:30am, from their New Years Eve outing of ice-skating and watching the fireworks, with gigantic smiles on their faces, only to shock those that we had over for the evening... Especially her uncle T!!! 8-)
Congrats DD2 and MrRose!!! 8-)
A date has been set for sometime in 2013
ah...undetermined as of yet... 8-)

Love,
Mom
PS: Friends and family, Mums the word on Facebook please, as per DD2's wish for now...

This and That and a PIF Reveal...

Prior to Christmas I was finishing up some table topper gifts. With this one I used my "Edge Guide" for the first time. I like it!! 8-)

Boys will be boys at Christmas! I think DS has found the little brother he never had in DD2's boyfriend, MrRose. You are never too old for Lego, or Sock'em Bop'em blowup punchers...

There is always time to play that new game you got for Christmas... RISK...
And you are never too old for building a Gingerbread House... even though you may build it with more tools... Besides the drill, note the glue-gun to the right... and apparently the tree belongs on the roof, and one gingerbread man needs to dangle from it... Note the sky-light window? lol

MrRose is one that is always fidgety and needs to be busy, so I think buying the gingerbread house kit was a good idea... They spent an hour and a half building it! 8-)

It snowed and blowed all of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day... Made for rotten driving conditions, but we managed... only got stuck once... 8-)
Now for the PIF reveal!!!
This is the table topper I made for Lurline.
I had fun making it for her... 8-)
Christmas Day morning...
Our fur-girls usually sleep in their kennels at night, but when we have been out all evening where they've already been in their kennels, we often let them sleep with us... Here they are sandwiching DH... Makes it hard to move around... 8-)
Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas with your families!
I did!

Second PIF gift received... I hear...

My second PIF gift has been received by our lovely Lurline, but I think she is teasing me by waiting till Christmas to open it... Lurline, its not a Christmas gift! Honest, you can open it! 8-)
Can you help me talk her into opening it? lol! 8-)

EDIT: Lurline opened her PIF gift, so now I can show it...
I had fun making it for you Lurline! 8-)

The weekend past...

On Friday night I decorated our little table topper tree...
Here it is in 3 different camera settings...
Being a small tree this year, I chose to only put in my favorite light weight decorations... Mostly homemade ones... 8-)

I thought I wouldn't be able to buy another addition to my village this year, as last year I had these pieces jammed into one of my shelves. DH had the great idea of pulling out the drawers on the wall-unit, lay two 2x4s across them, and set the village on there. Works out great, and I think I can indeed add a new piece this year!!! 8-)
I have no room to set up my inherited Nativity Scene this year, but there are 2 small Nativities in the tree! 8-)
I love living in string lighting and candles during the holidays...
As you can tell on the photos...
But my family didn't care for it when we had them all over last night for DS's birthday... 8-(
"It's too dark!" "Can't see what I'm eating!" "I can barely see you!"

My 6'5" baby of the family turns 22 this coming Wednesday, but he works a lot of overtime that we decided to have it on Sunday... I feel the poor boy always gets the short end having his birthday so darn close to Christmas... He was supposed to enter the world on Dec 15th twenty-two years ago....!!!!! lol!

At any rate, we had a nice gathering, the Dairy Queen ice-cream cake was yummy, and we get to have everyone over again on Boxing Day, for our Christmas...

Today I finished up the coffee table's Christmas table-toppers for my mother... I did the stitch and flip out method on them, but next time I will stick to doing a binding...
I put a Gingerbread backing on them... 8-)
Well that is the update from my weekend...

I have to finish "making my list, and checking it twice", so that I only have to be out and do the final bits of shopping once before the 3 days of Christmas is upon me... 8-)

Hope you are keeping well with the business of the season!

Oh Santa pleeeeeease....

Dear Santa,

Yes I believe I have been a good girl this year.

All I want for Christmas is.... nooooo not my two front teeth, I have those thanks!

All I want for Christmas is an iRobot Roomba, the bestest model if possible please! My quilting friend Paulette has one and she says "It's great! Especially with shedding dogs in the house! You've got to get one!!!"

Well Santa, I too have 2 dogs in the house that shed a lot!!! So please Santa, would you consider placing an iRobot Roomba under our tree for Christmas morning?

Pleeeeeeeeeeeeease........ 8-)

Love you!

Party Night and a Show and Tell...

We had our Christmas dinner/party last night! We were 23 strong, though one gal had to leave early, thus we miss her in the photo, and 7 others couldn't make it... I didn't realize our group was so darn big!!! A great group of ladies, with much fun and laughing!!! 8-)
The food was wonderful! A full turkey dinner/pot-luck!
Yum..... Thanks Sd, ladies!!! 8-)

This blurry photo, but lovely quilt was made by Cd, for a grandmother, to bring to China for her grandchild... Love the colors/fabrics Cd!!! 8-)
We played a couple of games, always fun, and I won the green FQ. It has some gold running through it... The Red Hats pattern I picked out of a pile of things that Cd wanted to unload... Thanks Cd! 8-)
I am impatiently waiting for Lurline's parcel to show up at her place now that Julie has received hers. It should be any hour now...
Jenny and Blossom's will take a while yet...

DD2 came to try on her dress after the alterations. Thank goodness I didn't have to change it and do any more alterations. I sure didn't like working with that stretchy slippery fabric...

Hope you are all staying fairly healthy with the hustle-bustle of the season...
Happy Stitchings!

Julie's PIF gift received...

I can now reveal one of my secret creations because Julie has received it!!!

Julie's family has a farm with cows and chickens (chooks), thus thought to make something showing one... Chooks it was! I had the kids in mind here too, so I made something fun... 8-)
I put their family name on the mailbox, but blocked it out for privacy... You know... 8-)
You can visit Julie's blog to see some of the other goodies I sent along... The wall-quilt may blow up bigger on her blog for a closer look, and be brighter as it was taken outside in daylight...

...and because I like playing with photos, here is the cartoon of the same photo... 8-)Glad you like the quilt Julie! 8-)
~~~~~~~~~~
One PIF shown now, 3 more to go! 8-)
Happy stitchings all!
Myra
PS: My dad is his old self... he went to see his doc today... Doc figures, by Mom's discription, it was a seizure Dad had, and he will get things lined up for him to see some specialists...
Hopefully sooner than much later I'm thinking...
It has been 2 years...
... and I'm doing more unpacking!!! 8-)
I was getting tired of the boxes being in my way in my bedroom closet. So, for whatever reason, today I decided to unpack them. To see what I have and haven't been missing.
These figurines are not collector items, nor expensive (I think), but they hold special memories/feelings from my childhood when we used to visit Grandma and Grandpa...
I filled this vase with items I found in a plastic container. The red sand is from Prince Edward Island, and the other seaside goodies are only a few items from our children's efforts of beachcombing on the beaches of Newfoundland...
Now, time to do the alterations on DD2's dress for her Christmas banquet on Friday... 8-)
Happy stitchings!
Myra
